In today’s day and age there are not many public role models for young girls to look up to. Many celebrities are marketed as good role models by their agents and public relations reps, but then a sex tape surfaces, they get slapped with a DUI, or they end up in rehab for drug use. These young celebrities get a great deal of money in their hands, access to the most elite clubs, and adults waiting on them hand and foot. It is no wonder so many of them go on a downward spiral, only to end up on a reality rehab show. Disney and Nickelodeon breed these young stars and then once they get a taste of the fame, they end up with a tarnished reputation, a mug shot, or worse. Some end up dead. Lindsay Lohan. Britney Spears. Brittany Murphy. It’s heart breaking.
Despite the pressures and temptations, some of these young girls come out on top. There is hope for the young women of the entertainment industry!
Dakota Fanning
This young starlet has not only worked alongside some of Hollywood’s most talented actors before the age of 16, but she has held her own in challenging roles. Even as a young child Dakota was able to capture an audience and light up the screen. Despite all of the glitz and glamour, she has stayed very grounded. In between being nominated for Screen Actors Guild awards and shining on the silver screen, Dakota attends a public school, cheers on the varsity cheerleading squad, and was crowned homecoming princess in 2009.
Not only is she an all around great role model, but the girl has great style! She is always dressed in age appropriate clothing on the red carpet and when photographed in public.
It’s always refreshing to hear that a young successful girl is a pleasure to work with, rather than getting fired for showing up late or hung over, like some of her peers. Keep it classy, Dakota!
Emma Watson
This young fashionista of Harry Potter fame is finishing up her freshman year at Brown University. She has certainly defied the odds of most young stars. Many of them completely disregard college as an option and choose to solely pursue their acting careers. Her top three school choices were Yale, Brown, and Columbia. This is one driven young girl. The classically trained actress always looks polished and has also gained a reputation of being a pleasure to work with. Her timeless beauty earned her as the face of Burberry. Her love of fashion is constantly on display everywhere she goes, and people can appreciate her beauty and style because she isn’t the hot mess than other young girls in similar positions often are. Emma has not only achieved success in her acting career, but is also driving towards admirable goals in her own life. I would love to see if her love of art and fashion ever turns into a line of her own, because I think it would be simply fabulous.
Keep it up, Emma girl. The world is watching.
