I love red lipstick. When I am getting ready for a night out on the town, or a friend’s wedding, or even a day at the office, and I am not feeling 100%, I slap on a coat of red lipstick and BAM-I feel confident and glamorous.
The problem?
Any girl who has rocked red lips knows that red lipstick is NOT easy to deal with. It either smudges, or ends up on your teeth or smeared on your cheek. You leave your mark on every glass you sip, ever pen you thoughtfully press to your mouth, and every person you smooch. Not cute.
Well I have officially found my favorite red lipstick EVER! I have searched far and wide for a quality red lipstick that will not fade or rub off on everything it comes in contact with.
The magic product? None other than Maybelline Superstay 24 Color lipstick.
This dual ended lipstick contains a strong punch of color on one end, and a smooth, enriching gloss on the other. The angled wand is long and shaped perfectly for a clean application. I have a fairly high and defined cupid’s bow, so I need a wand that will allow for precise application.You also don’t have to worry about bleeding with this brand-many other red lipsticks require concealer or lip-liner to prevent it from bleeding around the corners of your mouth. Not a problem with this product.
One thing I would NOT recommend is attempting to use this lipstick as a coordinating blush-many red lipsticks can be dotted on your cheek and smudged to make a dewy-matching blush. This lipstick has far too much staying-power to be used in that way. If you try to dot it on your cheeks, you will have red dots stuck on your cheeks…and they WILL require some work to remove. Don’t even think about it.
The brand offers many varying shades of red, which is important, as different reds are compatible with different people. I have to be careful to go with cooler, richer shades of red, or else it can look far too orange against my skin. Be sure to try different shades before swearing off red-there IS a shade of red lipstick out there for every woman! I am a firm believer in that! It is a matter of trial and error. You must try each shade on, with full make-up to be sure it will look right with your tone. Since Maybelline products are sold at most drugstores, check with the cosmetics return policies. Many drugstores have return policies that allow for you to return items that are the wrong shade. Try a few out and be sure to stock up when you find your shade-especially since they are only about $8 a piece! I personally have tried “All Day Cherry” and “Endless Ruby.” I was pleased with “All Day Cherry” but then I misplaced it in my bag of tricks, so I picked up “Endless Ruby” and was even more impressed. I love them both!
A few Do’s and Don’ts for rocking red on your smoochers:
- DO take care when applying. Red lipstick is no joke. Take your time and DO NOT try to apply in the car while driving to whatever event you are headed.
- DO play down the rest of your make-up. A simple muted blush or bronzer and dark mascara should do it. DO NOT wear a dark-smokey eye with red lips. You will look like a clown…or a hooker.
- DO think about what color nail polish you will be wearing. Be careful not to clash or be too matchy-matchy. Stay away from pinks or reds altogether.
There are tons of other tips that go along with wearing red lips including ways to keep it off of your teeth, and ways to make it stay put, but if you wear Maybelline Superstay, you don’t have to worry about any of those!
Give this brand a try-there are even some other great colors out there for those who aren’t daring enough to work the red lip.
